Usually. Most manufacturers don't cover stuff if it's used in a TC. I saw a
guy on ebay a while back that sold home brew caps (well, semi professional,
not exactly cased in pvc pipe) with a warranty. They had a 1" safety gap
attached to the side. The warranty was voided if the gap was messed with
(usually widened for bigger sparks).
