Re: Arctronics capacitors

Hello Kreso!

Ich bought these Maxwell caps from them and they worked fine for me.
Prices between 75$ and 90$ semm to be common.
The good thing is you have a professional relatively small high quality cap.
But you never know where tey came from and hoch much remaining live they have.
These caps are rated for 35 KV DC at 500BPS max and 20% voltage reversal.
A copy of data sheet can be found here

Today I would probly rather invest in a good MMC as they prooved to be a very
good choice. If you blow a cap or two in your MMC its a 5$ repair aud you
ready again. If you blow up your Maxwell cap you might have a 80$ paper
wight.
Another question is the way these caps can fail. I peronally don't fear any
eyplosion if not seriously overstressed over longer time but there ist a
chance they could fail explosively.
In my current design I will try to incoperate a microswitch pressure sensor as
suggested by Bert.

You just have to decide if you want a qiuck and easy cap like the maxwell or a
labour intensive MMC with better life expectancy/TCO. I feel they both
perform similar, so this is not really a thing to worry about.

Sincerely

Christoph Bohr
