That is impressive.  Currently, all the IGBT and thyristor modules (high
voltage) i've seen were comprised of several dies in series.

No they're not :-0 The dies are all in parallel and each die _does_ see
the full 6.5kV or whatever. Very impressive that they can make a piece
of silicon that stands 6.5kV.
