The AWG system makes sense, there is never confusion about "are you talking
diameter or cross sectional area" as with metric. We do have MCM for large
wires, but again, it's simple - MCM = 1000 circular mils, that's it. What is

Which proves once again that everyone is most comfortable with the
language and system of weights and measures they grew up with. Further
argument leads nowhere. On that you can bet your nickel against 2 crowns,
four shillings, and thruppence. ;-)))
