Congratulations on first light.  The heart of a tesla coil is the
spark gap.  The carriage bolts may be quenching poorly.  You
can make up a multiple gap that will work much better and
stress the NST less.  Your cap value is around the resonant
size.  A larger cap of around 12nF would stress the NST
less.  I like to use a lot more turns on the secondary, something
around 1300 to 1600 turns of 28awg wire for such a coil.  I sometimes
use 12awg insulated wire for the primary for the final design for

Also the primary turns can be closer than 1" spaced, for a more
compact coil.
