The first coil a mate of mine and i built used only two MOTs to prevent
powerarcing we used a DC Dustbuster motor for an ASRSG. The motor was rated
for 2.4volts and we were running it on 12 estimated speed was 11,000rpm.
Sparks produced were about 500mm long.
