Indeed, but you usually worry more about peak to peak ripple than the
regulation of the bulk supply. Modern semiconductor rectifiers fed from low
voltage high current transformers also have fairly low series resistance,
compared to a thermionic rectifier fed from a 700VCT transformer, so the
regulation (as in Vaverage out vs Iload) starts out better.
