Hi David, Coilers,

I believe you're trying to determine the polarity of an X-Ray tranny
you have.  If it's made anything at all like mine, the negative high
voltage lead will be brought out to a small terminal on a barrier
strip while the positive will be an elaborate bushing/insulator.

Mine also has a resistor network immersed in the oil which has a tap
brought out to a terminal that allows measurement of the voltage at
the tap point.  Knowing the ratio of the tap to the full voltage, I
use a 0-1 mA. movement to read 0-100 KV at full scale deflection of
the meter.  For safety I put a diode across the meter terminals so
that if the meter goes open I don't have any stray high voltage
lurking around the terminal strip.
