Shellacing a secondary

I finished winding my 3 inch secondary and have been shellac'ing, but how
many layers do I need? I've put 6 and the sixth is a little thicker than the
rest but still dried fine. Its definetly getting thicker, after the fifth
coat it really became noticable. I'm nowhere near running out of shellac.
