Thanks to all who replied. I opened my modified strobe, scraped between 
solderings (it had been modified once before unsuccesfully to a different 
plan,) scraped some more, jiggled it, poked and prodded it and now it works 
again. It had been spluttering and stuttering and now it's not anymore! 
Anyway I saved all replies. Thanks very much !
