Maxwell labs (now named something else...) has fuses designed just for this 
kind of application... I don't know if the General Atomic folks who bought 
Maxwell have this product line, or if it's Titan..
A web search might find it..

You might want to carefully study the data sheets and look at the 
dimensions, and then make your own fuses... essentially a fuse wire in a 
tube full of sand.
