Does anyone recognize this problem?

Hello list, it's a while since I've posted since I haven't been screwing up 
as much lately ! ;^ )
I just made a new toroid, a larger one, for my six inch coil. At the first 
try it worked extremely  well, with nice big rolling streamers. After a 
brief interval I tried it again but this time it mostly just hit the strike 
rail then started to bombard the secondary with hits a short way down and 
near the bottom. Raising the toroid and secondary seemed to make little 
difference in the short time I had. Later on I tried to retune the coil at 
30% power- spark gap was firing, I used a breakout point, but no thirty % 
sparks!!! Just absolutely nothing except my fluorescents were glowing. I'm 
hoping someone will have some ideas for me to keep in mind while I'm 
investigating tommorow.
