Large metal objects can affect the primary frequency.  But the frequency is 
not super critical.  Easy to tune out...

Large metal objects can distort the magnetic fields.  But coupling is not 
critical.  You will not notice...

You bet!!  It depends on how close you get, but Eddy currents and case 
heating could start to rob the coil of power!

Nope, the case shields the internals of the NST...

Worry about #3....
