All schematics capture progs have their own quirks, none are really
intuitive or have what is called a good user interface (or no progs do
that I know of, anyway)

In either case:

   ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/pub/program/4.11/eagle-4.11e.exe
   or for linux
   ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/pub/program/4.11/eagle-4.11e-1.i386.rpm

i.e. Eagle, which is pretty popular among hobbyists, and its fast to
learn. The component library has most of the commonly used parts, must be
a few 1000 of them there :)

The manual is a good place to get started faster:
   ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/pub/program/4.11/manual-eng.pdf

Ok. Maybe even more simplistic is
  http://www.capilano-dot-com/ but it's only 30-day trial

Then there's also the OrCAD / ex-MicroSim, now-discontinued PSpice
schematics capture. The interface is nicer. But there aren't too many
parts in the demo version library...

And a huge bunch of other schematics tools. Though, haven't found anything
that could compete with Eagle yet, on the freeware for hobbyists level.

cheers,
