OLTC- Fast IGBT Brick driver

Original poster: "Stephen Conner by way of Terry Fritz <teslalist-at-qwest-dot-net>" <steve-at-scopeboy-dot-com>

Dear list (especially Terry Fritz)

I just breadboarded my new driver circuit for the IGBT bricks. It
oscillated pretty bad at first but I soon beat some sense into it. Here is
the schematic (including the driver and the 555 timer based pulse generator
that I used)

And here is a scope trace proving that it does indeed turn on/off in 0.5us
;) The ringing is not caused by the driver circuit itself, but the gate
capacitance resonating with the stray inductance of the wires that go from
the driver to the brick :(

Finally here's a picture of the breadboard
