Back to Brass :)

Hi,

I just wound my primary with a copper strip roll, and
it looks like crap :) It's just too darn malleable,
like trying to wind it with tinfoil Christmas ribbon.
:)

It bends when I try and push it into place or pick it
up. I believe this would be a problem no matter how
thick, it tends to kink up because it has no
torsional (did i spell that right?) strength.

I picked up a few 12 inch brass strips of the same
thickness of my copper (.016) and test fitted them
into the comb supports and it appears to maintain
it's curved circular shape due to the extra strength.

So now I'm going to use brass (70% copper / 30% zinc)
for the primary, then I'll use the big roll of copper
I have left for all the coil interconnections.
I intend to use three separate strips totalling about
.048" thick by 2" wide. That should be able to
handle quite a bit of RF power. Perhaps I'll make
the middle strip copper.
