A height to dia. aspect ratio of 4.5:1 will offer good performance.
Do not space wind your coil. No need to. If running a NST you want to
calculate for approx 1200 to 1400 turns on the sec. coil. I would suspect
this would require approx 24 to 26 AWG wire but you need to do the math.
Select a wire gauge and then find the dia. and divide into your winding
length. You need over 1000 turns for optimum performance with a NST coil.
Wire charts available at your local library --- ARRL Radio Amateur's
Handbook has them in the back of the book.
Use 200 degree C. hi-temp wire for the winding. It has much better
insulation for the high potentials than standard magnet wire.
