Ed,

Actually it *is* a case of "newer is better."  Contrary to popular belief,
companies do NOT make NSTs for tesla coilers.  They make NSTs primarily to
run neon signs etc...
These electronic NSTs are better for this application.  Smaller, lighter,
and cheaper.  Heck the money they just save in shipping these things to
distributors would
probably be in the millions based on weight alone.
