We just brush the AC-43 on. We prefer using this as the finishing coats on
magnet wire type coils.

Even with the PVC tubes we always brush on 3 coats of Glyptal inside and out
before winding. Just use a piece of rag dipped into the Glyptal and the rag
is affixed to a piece of stiff wood like closet pole material or big dowel.

Then, after the magnet wire is wound the AC-43 makes a nice 3-4 finishing
coats. With PVC insulated wire on our larger coils we use a single coat of
the clear Gyptal. Multiple coats produce a yellowish discoloration. A coat
is always required to seal the PVC and prevent tracking.
