I changed My 4" * 18" O.D. Torid to a 6.25" * 24" O.D. torid and found that
it took more energy to get a breakout. When it does finally break out the
discharges are more intense.
My gap fires a number of times before breakout occurs.
I also noticed my safety gaps fire more often.
I think that if breakout doesn't occur after many breaks the charge rings
back through the primary.
The brightest white sparks from my coil occur at the safety gap.
