Hi All,

On the D2500 and D6000 variac dimmers, brush replacements are going to be
fun. The D6000 can use the Powerstat 1156D brush directly. Superior
Electric told me that it should be OK, but they don't know if it would
survive their 250,000 cycle test.

The D2500 brush is where the fun begins! Superior Electric does not make
that sized brush anymore. However, the 1156 brush has two brush units that
fit. You will need to rebuild the T plate that screws into the rotor, or
use the one from the old brush. Remember to cut the braid on the T plate
side, and reattach it to the new T plate. The best part is that for the
price of the 1156 brush you can get two brushes.

D2500: 20.8A, 0-120V, 2500W
D6000: 50A, 0-120V, 6000W
1156 brush: $52 (Jenkins Electric)

Both of these units were used in the old autotransformer boards in
theatres, and were made obsolete when the SCR dimmers came out. These
units are taper wound, meaning that a second winding starts at 50%, to give
higher current. This also means that they can only be hooked up 1 way.
