I'd argue about the audiophiles living and dying over tube gear.... Tubes
tend to sound better than SS because the distortion produced by tubes is
primarily even order, which is more pleasing to the ear than the odd order
distortion that many SS amps produce. Tubes also clip much more "nicely"
than SS, which is why tube mic amps and guitar pre-amps are generally
preferred, and the amplification "better" than SS.
That aside, I know that at least a couple people on DIYAudio have built
plasma tweeters. There may or may not be some threads in their archive
about plasma tweeters. http://www.diyaudio-dot-com
