mindless question: measuring mot voltage.
Original poster: "Laurence Davis by way of Terry Fritz <teslalist-at-qwest-dot-net>" <meknar-at-hotmail-dot-com>
scored a burger king mircrowave. two mots, two caps, ...
darn thing is over 20 yrs old.
the microwave's sticker said 1875watts. 220vac.
think i managed to find the primary and two secondary windings.
one was 75kohms, another at 80kohms.
both produce sparks on a crude "spark gap" for testing.
connected a high voltage probe to positive on meter, regular lead on neg.
then each to side of the 'spark gap'.
at 125vac (using variac) meter reads 5.44v I think its 1:1000 so thats 5440v.
the mot sticker states 4000v. yea whatever.
the high voltage probe got knocked off the one side of the test gap.
THE METER STILL READ THE SAME VOLTAGE.
with or with out the hv probe connected to the test gap, same voltage.
hay thats a neat trick. apparently fluke has us fooled we need TWO leads.
heh heh more profit... fools!!
but seriously... what am i doing wrong? or am i just missing the obvious?
larry.
