This is not the 1980s anymore. Some "super capacitors" have extremely low
ESRs and can supply large currents.

"super capacitors" are full of electrolyte, but do not work the same as
aluminum electrolytics capactirors. They non-polar, and do not act like a
metal oxide rectifier when reverse biased.  They are still not suitable for
high frequency AC use, so they are still useless for tesla coil use (and for
the other reasons you mentioned.)
