Hi James,
Welcome to the hobby. To best answer your questions on TC
construction, it would be very helpful to know a little of your background,
such as:
1. Age
2. Education, especially math & science.
3. Electrical/electronics training/experience/understanding (these are NOT
the same)
4. Budget. ($50, $200, $1000, $5000, $1M+, etc.)
5. Environment.(bedroom, basement, garage, barn, desert acreage, research
lab,etc.)
6. Location. ( Central Kansas, Fiji Islands, Thule Greenland, NYC, etc.)
7. Access to electrical power.

I am working with 3 newbies at this time. One is a uWave transmitter tech
in west Texas, one is a 63 year-old semi-retired professor of theoretical
physics with access to University facilities, and one is a 13 year-old
musical prodigy who has trouble turning on a flashlight. I would NOT make
the same recommendations to all three.

Sincerely,
Matt D.
