Zack,
For my capacitors I have used Beeswax over saline wallpaper paste in a
plastic container.

Wallpaper paste is,I believe a suspension of finely-divided wood pulp fibres
(cellulose) in water. when made as a stiff consistency with salt water
instead of plain water it forms a conductive gel which when topped with
beeswax is less likely to spill than water in capacitors.

You can see my primary cap using plastic film can as capacitors at
hot-streamer at http://www.hot-streamer-dot-com/temp/capacitor.bmp. The total
capacitance is about 330pF ,that is 82.5pF per film can, the individual
capacitors being connected as eight parallel strings each of two caps in
series. Larger capacitors can be made by using larger containers.

Jolyon.
