Be very careful if you go the ammoniacal copper route, its really nasty
stuff, it even dissolves paper. Mind you a lot of plating solutions are
really nasty anyway including cyanides. if you can get hold of it a coating
of "Aquadag" makes a good base for copper and nickel plating. Aquadag is a
colloidal graphite suspension in de-ionised water. Before coating anything
it needs to be thoroughly de-greased and then only handled with gloves. For
degreasing I suggest propan-1-ol (iso-propyl alcohol)
