Richard,

I cant think of any reason why it would not work, just that it would be more
expensive.

That size NST will work with a 2" to 4" secondary, however winding a 6"
allows for a larger NST if you ever obtain one.

Where, oh where, did you get the spheres from? I too am in Aus and have been
unable to find them locally, and the US suppliers wont even answer my
emails.

Toroidal top loads are better, as they shield the top of the secondary and
you are less likely to get a strike to it as the streamers tend to shoot out
sideways (instead of down).

A sphere on top of a small toroid should work well too.
