Hi Captain
The 'exploding material" is just steel 'wool' which is tangled fine steel
wire used for domestic pot scrubbing and obtained from a supermarket (don't
you wash dishes?). It is fine enough to give yellowish 'sparkles' with any
high current spark. So anything with a capacitor discharge or to a lesser
degree TC sparks as in the second picture down on my 'Scitech' page -
enlarge it to see. http://members.iinet-dot-net.au/~pterren/Scitech.htm You can
also use it as a breakout point but if you have a fancy spun aluminium
toroid it might stain or roughen the surface with microwelds (new word?).
Cheers
Peter (Tesla Downunder)
ps Received your board today. Now have to find the parts in Oz.
