Re: HV wire

The 14 AWG wire is okay *only* for the connections between the transformer
output and the capacitor. The tank circuit wiring should be a thick gauge
wire at least
8 AWG for your set-up for best performance. Everytime the spark gap fires,
you will be discharging your tank cap into the primary coil which is mucho
peak current.
The 14 AWG for the tank circuit would limit performance somewhat.

Also, you don't really need to use high voltage wiring as long as you keep
some type of spacing on it from hard grounds or other wiring. I use 4 AWG
600V welding wire for
my portable 3kVA coil with no problems.

Also, current vs. AWG charts are typically for average current ratings and
acceptable heating of the wire in question. For the tank circuit you are
more concerned about the series inductance and series resistance of the wire
overall during those peak discharges only.

Hope this helps.
