It may give it a certain rustic charm ;-)

Seriously though, my experience of baler twine has shown it to degrade 
in time in sunlight - mostly losing colour.  I don't know how much UV 
would be around running a coil, but maybe this is something to bear in mind.

Worst case scenario would be a polymer or a pigment used to colour it 
that became conductive with excessive UV exposure, although I'd consider 
this unlikely ;-)
