Set the gaps as close as you dare, from a mechanical point of view, that
is, with respect to the chance of collision.
Having the electrodes close is good: it makes it possible to run the
coil at low power, if you have a variac to ramp up the voltage.
At full power the distance is less critical, since the gap ignites
before the electrodes actually allign.
