To mystery coiler:
I ALWAYS run calculations on the design BEFORE I even build it. It is
quite easy using many of the spreadsheets available - I prefer mine of
course. That way you know that the primary and secondary are capable of
being tuned for proper operation and you have some idea of where to set the
primary tap to get started. It will at least get you in the right ball
park. Usually within one turn. After doing this many times, often you
will be able to calculate the correct primray tap position within just a
few inches.
