Series, because each can take 1000V, and you want to assemble them to make
a "single" high voltage diode for 10kV or so. Paralleling diodes (for
equal current sharing) is no trivial task i.e. you'll seldom see
paralleled diodes - so for the future, other projects, you could safely
assume diodes are meant to be in series if the text doesn't say otherwise. :o)
