My appoligy I am only 30 years older. The High Z speakers were shaped like
old victrola trumpets and would fill a room with sound. The trumpet was made
of laquered paper. You can modify a modern large speaker by removing the
magnet and adding new pole former pieces to the magnet and re-mounting it.
You will nead real fine wire to wind right over the old voice coil, don't
try to remove the old.Add about 1/8" in thick coil and laquer it tight. The
outside pole-former will have to clear the new coil. This will work with no
power with a good antenna. Use an electric fence type lightning arrestor on
your antenna. I carried a scar for years across my belly caused when my
antenna was vaporised by a near miss. Many of the moderm speaker magnets are
mounted with heat glue and pop right off when heated and pried with a screw
driver. The outside pole former can be cut with a lathe and remounted in the
same place with heat glue.
