If any of you would like, I could scan some pictures of several
interesting rotary gap ads from QST magazine, circa 1919 to 1921, and
file them in Terry's archives (if I can remember how). They show
several different designs, some of which might be of current value.
Several use a cast ring with electrodes, mounted on an insulating disk
which is connected to the motor. Another very interesting design has
the gap enclosed in an "almost air tight" aluminum housing, with the
claim that it is "nearly silent". (In those days the sound of the gap
was deafining (sp?), even with the input powers of only a kW or so.)
Another advantage of that design would be that the light from the spark
wouldn't be visible either. I suspect that heating would be a problem
with a long run, but.....
