Excellent experiment.  

Yesterday I was frequency sweeping a coil of twisted pair copper telephone
cable.  I was surprised at the various resonances that cropped up and large
phase changes that occurred.  You may want to consider this additional
parameter since a spark gap produces an almost infinite number of
frequencies.
