Snychro RSG's work great with NST's. Non-synchro RSG's can burn out when
used with NST's.
If you use a nice 1800 rpm snychro with 4 electrodes your NST should have a
happy life.
Terry Frit'z protection circuit in the archives is a great way to guarantee
this.
