Daniel:
Yes it is ... and you are bonding two dissimilar plastics that are made to
be welded
with a solvent-based glue.
The ABS glue is very thick (a lot of filler and not a lot of solvent) and the
solvent
isn't all that aggressive so I apply a fair amount.
For Plexi only (and poly) I always use Weldon #3 .. but this is a pure solvent
that is
very thin ... made to get in the cracks by capillary action. You don't want
that here.
I'm sure a good epoxy would work as well assuming the join surfaces are clean
and
lightly sanded (as suggested by another list member).
Since I don't know what epoxies you have available off-the-shelf, I suggest you
take a couple of scrap pieces and practice with what you have available first.
My experience is that two-part epoxies are pretty easy to use ... be sure the
mix
doesn't get too hot from the exothermic reaction. The smell of some epoxies
can be pretty offensive so be sure to have good ventilation.
I usually put a disk inside my secondary (glued in place) and then attach top
and
bottom fittings using nylon hardware. Most plastics houses also have sheet PVC
1/4" and thicker) as well as acrylic and it's much less expensive than
polycarbonate.
Polycarbonate drills and taps the best of all the plastics and can make a
stronger
(and less fragile) support if you need it.
