The only problem is the tendency of NST's to die. 4 MOT's in series with a
center tap have decent voltage and the current just needs to be ballasted.
The only annoying thing about the MOT's is a decent ballast but I've made one
out of the core of an MOT using the original primary as the coil(I probably
should wind a different coil for the ballast) and then I can change the
current input from like 3A to 15A.

is too high and voltage too low. NSTs are abundant and I got mine for free
(15/60). So I do not see why people go the MOT route. Like this hobby is
not dangerous enough?
