I used 5 coats of high gloss water based poly varnish on a 2.5" PVC
secondary and have not had any problems.  When I bought the varnish I did
not give it a second thought.  It may have been better to use a solvent
based varnish, but not having compared the two, I cannot comment.  I have
only run the coil at low power at the moment -at- 200W.
