Advice on Grounding

Original poster: "Patrick Leonard by way of Terry Fritz <twftesla-at-qwest-dot-net>" <transactoid-at-rogers-dot-com>

I have to present my coil to my physics class this coming monday. This
introduces the problem of how to ground it.

Currently I just run it in my basement with the secondary and NST all wired to
the mains ground. From what I've read, this is a big no-no. However, I've
found it works very well and have not had any problems with interference. Also,
I only run the coil for very short "spurts" (ie, a few seconds - too much
ozone/noise for an enclosed area), so perhaps this is why I've not seen any
problems.

So basically, is this practice safe, considering I'm not running it for any
prolonged period of time?

If not, any ideas how I could go about grounding it?

Thanks,
Patrick
