Neil,

Get him on the Pupman list, get him to subscribe him to the group, but let
him learn his own way. I tried to teach a friend, but they got confused
because they didnt like the way I explained it. However if you wanna take
the hands on approach then teach him about all the seperate components, and
then about SAFET (hammer that bit in) and then help hm with supplies etc...

He'll get the idea :)
