Hi Daniel, All.
I put the transformer in parallel with the spark gap. In my
experience, my safety gap fires more when the transformer is placed
across the capacitor. I think (uh-oh) that this indicates more of the
RF from the tank circuit is reaching the transformer. I don't know that
there is a "best way" to hook up the transformer. People have used both
methods with success, but I think that most people put the transformer
across the spark gap. Supposedly putting the xfmr across the cap is
more stressful on both components.
