Hi Ed.I never ran them for a long time,their kinda my desk "toys".I use them 
when ever i get a "sparky" idea. This way the contacts really don't wear 
much.Power,yeah well sometimes i cheat and use 9 to 12 volts.But even with 6 
volts i get a hot spark(alright at 6 volts,somewhat less than an inch sorry)
