 I saw the circuit at http://www.nuenergy-dot-org/plasmatron.htm in a 1997
issue of Electronics Now magazine. I built the circuit several months
ago, but replaced the SG3526 with a 555 (because I had those ; ) and
a small N-channel MOSFET to invert. I left the push-pull stuff alone.

I noticed no shoot-through condition. None at all. Even using a
single oscillator and one transistor to invert....

Needless to say, my circuit was a little unstable (555) but still
 performed okay.

I wouldn't use the 555 for this. I would stick with one of the
 rock-solid PWM controller IC's. Like, for instance, the SG3526 ; )

 Take care,

Oh so it works? How about that 1mH choke? Is it all that important?
