John; All capacitors are DC rated. Some capacitors like motor run
capacitors are also AC rated. The problem comes in when the capacitor is
polarized like an electroletic capacitor. These capacitors are formed by
plating or charging them to form an insulating coating often with aluminum
and sulfuric acid. When these capacitors are reversed polerity they conduct
like a diode and explode in a spray of acid and metal foil. These capacitors
are marked with a + & - polerity sign. No good for AC.
