secondary winding spacing experiment
Original poster: "george hadle by way of Terry Fritz <twftesla-at-qwest-dot-net>" <ckreol1-at-yahoo-dot-com>
I wound a coil of aluminum foil 1-2 cm wide strip.
Capacitance is affected by distance of plates and area
of plates facing each other, the latter upon which we
will focus. In the colorado spring notes tesla winds a
coil of approx 30 gauge wire with the aim of
decreasing distributed capacitance by decreasing the
area of each capacitor (turn). It doesn't work for
him due to the increased resistance of the fine wire.
Lower Q. As is noted in the guide to the csn, a trade
off is always made.
I wound the 8 inch form with 23 turns al foil strip in
a helical fashion, as one would normally wind the
secondary. This decreases the area of the coils
facing echother to jsut the edges of the al foil.
freq.=1.388 MHz
L=.04 mH
C=329 pF
dc Resistance= 3.28 ohms. This can be vastly
decreased by using layers of al foil.
A form of larger diameter should be tried.
This may be ideal as a low impedence secondary as is
needed in the magnifier design.
The width of the foil varied greatly as this was a
very sloppy job.
ideas?
thanks
george
