Frozen ground…hmmm..

Ground possibilities:

Well point-
Sewer-
Mass of metal. Could be most anything. Old car, machine parts, hill of ALU 
cans.-
A long wire going to your neighbors water pipe. ;)

I like the nail idea. The other option is to wind a second secondary coil 
and use that.
