My capacitor is made from thin walled buckets which have a total surface
charge area of 110"sq. I'm only using 95" sq in reallity to leave a space at
the top of the buckets to prevent arc overs between layers. In the
construction of each cell I use two buckets, one bucket has Aluminum ducting
tape and is unmodified, the next layer has its top rim removed and is coated
with foil tape which slides down inside the unmodified bucket as to make an
almost airtight seal...I add oil between bucket layers to suppress corona
discharge. This is exactly the same idea behind the party cup cap except on
a much larger scale.
As for my 30 kV rating on the capacitor, it was able to charge up on a dual
flyback curcuit running 30 kVDC output, and it stored a WICKED charge and
never flashed over once! The output was HUGE!
As for the uF rating of the capacitor....I can tell you without a doubt that
this bucket capacitor out performs a friend of mines maxwell energy
capacitor rated at 160 nF! Go figure! The Tesla Coil calc. gives me 1
